I spent the majority of the weekend red and raw, sore and miserable, sleepy and irritable, but it wasn't even the after-effect of a spanking good time! Damn if I haven't developed an allergic reaction (hives) to my hypothyroid medication (Levothyroxine)... the one that I need to be taking every day but now can't take at all because it causes my entire body to break out in copious areas of relentless itching which leads to welts and lumps and bumps and more itching in new places!
Ever the smarter member of the family, Dante was the one who figured out what was causing my misery, and he even suggested that my medication might be the direct link. Fortunately, or unfortunately, he was right... I stopped taking that medication and within 24 hours, all itching and redness is gone (a few small bumps remain). But now I am in a bit of a precarious situation.
I KNOW that I need to see one of my doctors and get this resolved quickly, as I am not supposed to just quit this medicine "cold turkey" and without it, I feel tired, lethargic, foggy and unmotivated. I've put in calls to both of my doctors and am waiting to hear back from their nurses now. Hopefully, my thyroid specialist will either just order a new medication or will see me tomorrow, when Dante has to be in town for a routine appointment anyway.
No worries... I'll be fine no matter what. After all, with Dante watching my back, (and my front... *grins and bounces*), what could possibly go wrong?

I've never been much of a voyeur. Yes, I know, it's one of my shortcomings.

Oh, Honey, poor you! I occasionally get those hives just on my left index finger... (stress related I'm sure, good job I am not a stressy person!) and they drive me wild! I rub an ice cube on it... but over my whole body??? OHHHHHHHH, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Tiggs, how on earth did you cope? Bless you. Hugs and hugs and hugs a million.... xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I'm glad to hear you're feeling better and that Dante figured out so quickly what was going on. Hopefully the docs will get everything sorted out for you.
Thanks for showing up at my new private blog in the midst of your tribulations and saying some nice things; Spot hasn't stopped purring yet and has spent the whole day sitting around with a silly cat grin on his face.
Now I just need to figure out who else to invite. Maybe I'll just write for you and Kallisto :) If any my former readers out there are interested, they should drop me a line and maybe Spot will send them an invite.
Allergic reactions of any sort suck! Horribly! Are you aware of the oatmeal bath things that Aveeno has? You'll need to rinse out the tub after such a bath, but they have helped me in the past.
Feel better!
I just stumbled on your blog.. and wondered.. were you taking a generic form of Synthroid? Sounds like you were.. and that may be the problem. I'd be interested to see what your docs figure out for you!
Best of luck and that oatmeal really does work.. messy but true~
What a horrible catch 22 to be in. I hope your docs get your meds sorted *quickly*.
If you find yourself scratching unwittingly during the night, you might like to try some light cotton gloves. Not the ideal solution in summer but it's all that worked for me years ago.
Blessings

Oh that doesn't sound good Tiggs, never had hives myself. It's a good Dante worked out what was causing it. Hope your docs have sorted it out by now.
Love.

Hi all... the hives are all but gone but I haven't taken my thyroid medication since the weekend and am definitely feeling "off." My thyroid doc is fighting with my insurance, since they are refusing to pay for the name-brand medication in spite of her best efforts. I flat-out can't afford the meds without the insurance, so what can I do but wait? She said that it may take a few days to straighten out, if we get lucky. Until then, not much computer-related stuff for me... heaven knows what I might say, lol!
